Ayurveda
Ayurveda is a 5000 year old tradition rooted in India. Paramount to Ayurveda is that we are elemental beings unified by Universal Consciousness; Awareness. Body, mind & spirit are inseparable. To be self aware is to be close to God. I look at my infant son, Kahlil, the most sensual being in action, and I see he is close to our source, fresh off the press. May we, who work at mending the gulf between ourselves and our source, be rewarded by our efforts. May we want what we have and always be grateful for what we have, rather than pining for what we don't have. Even if what we have is uncomfortable, may we be grateful for the experience that those discomforts elicit and see them as opportunities for growth & change. May we be abundant beings who joyfully take part in the beautiful exchange of the positive energy that brings forth our good food, good homes and good relationships. May we be nourished as well as be nourishing to others so that we may create a world of interconnected joy and triumph. Jai MA!

Pitta=Water & Fire dosha; hot, mobile, slightly oily
Kapha-Earth & Water dosha; heavy, cool, slow, moist
Astringent- That which tends to shrink or constrict body tissues; foods that create a dry & puckering mouthfeel, the affects of tannins common in many legumes, fruits, orange peel, banana peel, coffee, teas & wine. Increase the dry, cold, rough effects of Fall/early Winter (Vata season) and of Vata type people.
